Welcome to St Joseph School Sliema’s official
web-site.
On behalf of the educational school
community I would like to welcome you to our
school.
Many of you visiting this website know about the
school and its ethos, others may be new to our
community – we hope this website will not only
showcase what we do but who we are, and what
being a pupil at St Joseph School Sliema is all
about.
St Joseph School Sliema is a Catholic girls’
school belonging to the Congregation of the
Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition and we
are indeed proud of our heritage that stretches
back to 1881, when the school welcomed its first
pupils in the very same building that houses the
senior section today.
Our foundress, St Emilie de Vialar, believed
that a school was an apostolic means of offering
help to the neighbour, and for her, education
meant the education of the whole person. St
Emilie’s vision, based on spiritual and human
values, co-responsibility, solidarity,
competence and adaptability is still our guiding
force today.
At St Joseph’s we are proud of our past and
understand that our challenge today is to guide
our pupils to live up to the school motto -
“Believe and Achieve”, to find personal
fulfillment as life-long learners, to become
active citizens who work for social justice,
inspired by gospel values.
To this end, we try to nurture confidence
and self-esteem and a sense of belonging, we
work hard to promote our pupils’ spiritual,
intellectual and physical development in
accordance with their talents and capabilities,
in the knowledge that such gifts come from a
loving God who asks us to use them for our good
and that of others.
All this would not be possible without the
strong foundation forged by the Sisters, a team
of dedicated staff, committed students and
supportive parents.
This is
the bed-rock on which our school stands.
Today, the school leadership team,
teachers and learning support assistants
understand that a vibrant school community is a
‘learning’ school community and they have taken
up the challenge of e-education and
communication.
We value our parents’ support and
participation in their daughter’s educational
journey and hope this website will further
strengthen the bonds between all stakeholders in
the school community.
May all
who use this website find it useful and
informative.
